Ala MoBotta (July Hawaii Beach Event)

Description:

This is more of a trial run/get together for the venue, arena, etc than a planned competition. If you live in Hawaii and want to build a robot, I recommend coming.

I will have running examples of fairweights and an antweight ready, and my demo fleet of 150 gram bots would be ready for anyone who wants to try robot fighting. If anyone signs up with 2 weeks warning, I will make sure to have a bot built to face you.

The arena has a 4ft x 4 ft floor and is 2-1/2 feet tall. The floor is probably going to be hardboard or plywood.  

Location:

The plan is to be at Magic Island park in Honolulu on the marina (East) side off the paved path. I will try to get a spot under a tree. There are two nearby beaches for the non-combat robot enthusiasts: Ala Moana Beach and Magic Island Lagoon. The Lagoon is protected and has a maximum depth of about 8 ft.

There are public bathrooms. I'd recommend bringing a plastic sheet to cover your stuff with if it rains. Generally, it only rains for 10 minutes or so and things dry off quickly. Power will be from batteries. I will have a 150W inverter, battery powered soldering iron, and batteries with XT60 connectors to power chargers.

Time:

I will be trying to arrive by 9:00 AM and start hauling stuff out to the spot. If there winds up being a competition, I recommend doing the same. I would expect any competition to start around 11:00 AM. Your bot would need to have passed safety checks by then to compete in any tournament. I will probably pack up around 3-4 PM unless people are having lots of fun.
