Maker Battle is an electrifying event where competitors unleash their remote-controlled 1lb robots into the arena, vying for victory and bragging rights!.

This double-elimination tournament-style showdown limits entries to 24 bots, ensuring intense competition.

With rounds lasting up to 2 minutes or until one robot is disabled, the excitement is palpable as makers showcase their engineering prowess. Beyond the battles, Maker Battle is an event that bolsters Hartford's community spirit.

What is Maker Battle?

While this event is a competition, it also represents an opportunity to bring the community together! MakerspaceCT is where people and projects thrive, and we hope to partner with our sponsors and supporters to continue to provide this resource to Connecticut and beyond. Maker Battle 2024 will help us continue to provide equipment, community, and education

Registration Categories:

Antweight - Youth: Exclusive registration for the first 10 bots starting March 15, 2024 at noon through March 27, 2024 at 11:59pm

  • All registrants in this category must have at least one team member 18-years-of-age or younger. All youth participants must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Upon registration, you will be asked to confirm the name and age of the youth team member and their position on the team (builder, driver, etc)

Antweight - All Ages: Registration opens March 28, 2024 at noon through April 25, 2024 at 10:00am

  • Registration is open to any age. Any youth participant wanting to register beginning on March 28th will sign up in this category.

Registration Details:

  • a cap of 24 bots for this event
  • There is a limit of 1 bot registration per team with a unique bot driver
  • “Antweight - Youth” is limited to the first 10 bot registrations
  • If the “Antweight - Youth” category fills up before March 27th, we’ll open up registration for “Antweight - All Ages” early. If you want to be notified about early

BOT registration fee:

  • FREE -- Thanks to the sponsorship provided via NHRL, we can offer free registration for all bots. Thank you NHRL!
  • Each unique bot driver is limited to one bot. (no single driver may register more then 1 bot for this event)
  • If you register multiple bots under 1 team OR multiple bots under 1 driver, your registration will be kicked out of the system

BOT registration fee:

  • FREE -- Thanks to the sponsorship provided via NHRL, we can offer free registration for all teams. Thank you NHRL!
  • Each team is limited to one bot.
  • There is no separate team registration fee.

Spectator fee:

  • Adult $5, 5yrs or younger free

Arena

  • Size: 8' x 8' x 8'
  • Floor: 3/4" plywood coated with paint
  • Kickplates: 4” Stainless Steel
  • Windows: 1/4" polycarbonate

1lb Weight Class - Safety & Physical Rules*

Safety

  • All robots must have a weapon lock that prevents any spinning weapons from moving outside of the cage.
  • All robots must have a way to turn off power without disassembling the robot.
  • All robots must pass a radio fail safe test.

Weight

Size

  • No restrictions on size, but must fit through a 36” door

Electrical

  • Robots must use electrical systems that operate at or less than 25.2 volts - max 6s

Weapons

  • Robots may include at least one active weapon
  • Projectiles are allowed, however - please email us details, a photo, and projectile speed must be below 100mph

The following weapon types are prohibited:

  • Nets
  • Flame throwers
  • Liquids of any kind
  • Weapons that purposefully disrupt radio signals
  • Strobe Lights
  • Lasers
