Maker Battle is an electrifying event where competitors unleash their remote-controlled 1lb robots into the arena, vying for victory and bragging rights!.

This double-elimination tournament-style showdown limits entries to 32 bots, ensuring intense competition.

With rounds lasting up to 2 minutes or until one robot is disabled, the excitement is palpable as makers showcase their engineering prowess. Beyond the battles, Maker Battle is an event that bolsters Hartford's community spirit.

Hosted by MakerspaceCT, this event isn't just about competition; it's a celebration of innovation and collaboration. By supporting Maker Battle, attendees contribute to the growth of MakerspaceCT, empowering makers and nurturing creativity in Connecticut and beyond.

What is Maker Battle?

While this event is a competition, it also represents an opportunity to bring the community together! MakerspaceCT is where people and projects thrive, and we hope to partner with our sponsors and supporters to continue to provide this resource to Connecticut and beyond. Maker Battle 2024 will help us continue to provide equipment, community, and education

Highlights:

• Competitors pit their remote-controlled 1lb robots against each other.

• Double-elimination tournament style with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

• A cap of 32 bots for this event

• Battles last 2 minutes or until one robot has been disabled.

• There is a 15-minute repair window between matches

• Networking and promotional opportunities alongside an exciting and dynamic event for the Hartford community.

• Meet like-minded makers and members from MakerspaceCT.

• 8:00am-9:45am Setup and check-in

• 9:45am Brackets get posted

• 9:45am Driver's meeting

• 10:00am-12:30pm Battles start 

• 12:30pm lunch break

• 1:00pm- 4:00pm Battle continues

• 4:15pm Awards

• 4:30pm event teardown

Location:

MakerspaceCT - 36 Talcott Street, Hartford, CT, 06103 - parking on the street is free on Saturdays…paid lots available - read the signs. Click Here for Parking Info.

Registration Schedule:

• September 10, 2024 at noon - Registration opens for Youth AND Adults.

• Youth registrants, ages 17 or younger, will take the first 16 combatant spots.

• Adult participants 18+ will be waitlisted until October 1st, at which time seats are open to all applicants.

• October 1, 2024 at noon - Any open youth spots will be granted to anyone waitlisted - (this can be adults or youth).

Just a Reminder:

The first 16 spots are reserved for youth starting September 10, 2024 at noon through October 1, 2024 at 12 noon. After this time, all unfilled remaining spots in either category will be available to any interested team.

Who is a youth competitor?

• The youth member must be 17 years of age, or younger.

• All youth participants must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

• Upon registration, you will be asked to confirm the name and age of the youth competitor.

Registration Details:

• A cap of 32 bots for this event.

• There is a limit of 1 bot registration per unique bot driver.

• Teams can contain multiple robots, provided that each robot has a unique driver.

• Youth are guaranteed the first 16 bot registrations until September 26th at 12 noon.

BOT registration fee:

• FREE -- Thanks to the sponsorship provided via NHRL, Liberty Bank and Our Piece of the Pie, Inc., we can offer free registration for all bots. Thank you sponsors!

• Each unique bot driver is limited to one bot. (no single driver may register more than 1 bot for this event).

Spectator fee:

• Adult $5

• 5yrs or younger free (must be accompanied by an adult)

The Maker Battle Arena

• Size: 8' x 8' x 8'

• Floor: 3/4" plywood coated with paint

• Kickplates: 6” inch tall wood

• Windows: Dual pane - 1/4" polycarbonate

1lb Weight Class - Safety & Physical Rules*

Safety

• All robots must have a weapon lock that prevents any spinning weapons from moving outside of the cage.

• All robots must have a way to turn off power without disassembling the robot.

• All robots must pass a radio fail safe test.

Weight

• 1.0lbs in a fight ready condition. All robots will be weighed prior to their first match.

• There is a .5 lb weight bonus for robots that do not use wheels or tracks for motion

Size

• No restrictions on size, but must fit through a 36” door and into the cage.

Electrical

• Robots must use electrical systems that operate at or less than 25.2 volts - max 6s

Weapons

• Active weapons are not required, but are encouraged!

• Projectiles are allowed, however - please email us details, a photo, and projectile speed must be below 100mph. Send emails to info@makerspacect.com.

The following weapon types are prohibited:

• Nets

• Flame throwers

• Liquids of any kind

• Weapons that purposefully disrupt radio signals

• Strobe Lights

• Lasers

• Tasers & similar electrical discharge weapons
