Fall Fracas '24

Hosted by DAM Robotics (formerly Oregon State Combat Robotics, OSCR) and open to the public, Fall Fracas '24 is Oregon State University's first robot combat competition of the '24-'25 academic year! DAM Robotics members learn the basics of combat robotics through a basic curriculum and hands-on design and developing their own Plastic Antweight and Beetleweight robots. Now is the time to test ourselves against others in the Combat Robotics community!

Fall Fracas '24 will take place on Saturday, November 9th, in Oregon State University's Kelley Engineering Center atrium with doors opening at 10:00 am for setup and testing and battles starting at 12:00 noon.

Due to construction, parking has become more challenging, but OSU lots should be free over the weekend. Lots near Weniger and Rogers hall are reasonably close by.

This event will be the first with our brand new combat arena! it is 6 feet x 6 feet wide and 3 feet tall. The floor is steel with steel kickplates. There is not currently a floor coating. In one corner is a 1 foot square modular pit which currently is set to always be open. The default pit configuration will be always open for this event, and new modules are in design. Our pit has a 1 inch tall lip around the outside. This arena is over-specced for up to beetleweight robots, but for this event we will be offering no weight bonuses in this class while we make sure our arena behaves as expected.

At this event we will offer:

For Fall Fracas only we will only accept new plastic antweight robots, as we have many new club members who may be driving very simple underweight wedge bots. We want to challenge anyone in this class to design a completely new robot. For grace, if your robot has one win or zero in its lifetime, it can qualify as new so you can keep testing it out, but if you have 2 wins or more please do not register that bot. Additionally, we all know you can design a new version of your hypermeta blue and black vertical spinner with modular forks, and you can even make it a new robot on RCE if you want, but that takes the fun away for lots of new people, please respect the spirit of the rules and try something new for yourself as a challenge. This new bot thing will only ever happen in fall and we'll adjust year over year based on how it goes.

This tournament, in all weight classes, will be modified double-elimination style with first bracket match winners moving on and losers moving into the second bracket. Losing in the second bracket will knock a bot out of the competition. The winner of the first bracket and the winner of the second bracket will meet in the single elimination finals.

OSCR complies with the SPARC ruleset, which can be found here: https://clubs.oregonstate.edu/combat-robotics/sparc
