Welcome to CTRL PDX! This is our first event, and we’re super excited! The event location is a makerspace in the St. Johns area called Tinkercamp. Spectators and competitors of any skill level are welcome! Check-in starts at 9 and brackets will be created at 11. If possible, arrive with your bot ready to pass safety and compete.

Schedule:

9:00 - 11:00 Check in and safety
10:30 - 11:00 Driver's meeting
11:00 - 1:30  Fights
1:30 - 2:15 Lunch break
2:15 - 5:00 Fights Resume!
5:00 - 6:30 Teardown
6:30 Group Dinner! (optional)

The schedule is designed to have extra time. The event may end early.

Safety: To pass safety, your bot will need to be weighed and demonstrate that it can failsafe. For safety purposes, if a robot’s battery is exposed to its opponent, that robot will lose the fight. In the event of a lipo fire, we will have a lipo bucket with kitty litter and tongs, as well as someone nearby who can run the bucket out of the building.

Arena: We have a 4-foot by 4-foot box with an untreated steel floor. There will be a pit with no lip that will be open for the entire match, unless both competitors agree to keep the pit closed. (Rules regarding when the pit is open or closed are subject to change). Falling into the pit will start a 5-second countout. We will be using the standard Sparc ruleset for full-class metal antweight, plastic antweight, and fairyweight. The tournament will also use a modified double elimination bracket. If a weight class has less than 6 robots, we will do a round-robin tournament for that weight class.

Fighting Format: The tournament will use a modified double elimination bracket. If a weight class has less than 6 robots, we will do a round-robin tournament for that weight class. Our weight classes and maximum class sizes are:

Fairyweight 8 bots
Full Combat Ant 16 bots
Plastic Ant 16 bots

Money stuff:

Builders will be charged a $20 entry fee per robot. This is to offset the cost of our box, improve builder experience, and to purchase other materials. A portion of this money will also go to the event space. You can pay at the event in cash, or ahead of time via Zelle, Venmo, or here on the RCE website. My venmo is @PabloRiffel and you can send money on zelle with my phone number (503) 300 8381. When paying me online, make sure to tell me which robot you are paying for!

If you want to make an additional donation to the makerspace as well, it would be greatly appreciated. They are letting us use the space for free, and we want to help them stay afloat. We are also giving 25% of the money we make from registration fees to the makerspace. If you are interested in making an additional donation, you can do that here: https://www.tinkercamp.org/donate.php

Entry to the building: There are two ways to get inside; through a back door and a short path inside the building to our space, or through the front entrance on Baltimore Ave, up the stairs, and look for room 212 on the map. More information on how to get to the event space will be added here and on our discord as we get closer to the event.
