Welcome to CTRL PDX! Chaos at Cathedral Park is our third event, and we’re super excited! It's sponsored by Tinkercamp, a makerspace in the St. John's area who's letting us use their awesome space. Spectators and competitors of any skill level are welcome! Bot check-in starts at 9 and brackets will be created at 11. If possible, please arrive with your bot ready to pass safety and compete.
Schedule:
9:00 - 11:00 | Check in and safety |
10:30 - 11:00 | Driver's meeting |
11:00 - 1:45 | Fights |
1:45 - 2:30 | Lunch break |
2:30 - 5:30 | Fights Resume! |
5:30 - 6:30 | Teardown |
The schedule is a loose esimate of how the day will go. Things are subject to change.
Safety: To pass safety, your bot will need to be weighed and demonstrate that it can failsafe. For safety purposes, if a robot’s battery is exposed to its opponent, that robot will lose the fight. In the event of a lipo puncture or fire, we will have a lipo bucket with kitty litter and tongs, as well as someone nearby who can run the bucket out of the building.
Arena: We have a 4-foot by 4-foot box with an untreated steel floor. We will be trying to find a different hazard solution for this event. We will update this page with more details once things get figured out.
Rules: We will be using the standard Sparc ruleset for full-class metal antweight, plastic antweight, and fairyweight. There will be no "wiggle room" above the maximum weight (150 and 454 grams). We are allowing the weight bonuses outlined in the Sparc ruleset for plastic antweight and fairyweight classes only, in the interest of arena safety.
Fighting Format: The tournament will use a modified double elimination bracket. If a weight class has less than 6 robots, we will do a round-robin tournament for that weight class. Our weight classes and maximum class sizes are:
Fairyweight | 12 bots |
Full Combat Ant | 24 bots |
Plastic Ant | 24 bots |
We are looking to expand the event to allow more robots to compete, but this is what we can do with the space we currently have.
Prizes: We will get in contact with potential sponsors of the event shortly to secure prizing for the podium finishers in each weight class.
Money stuff: Builders will be charged a $20 entry fee per robot. This is to offset the cost of our box, improve builder experience, and to purchase other materials. A portion of this money will also go to the event space. You can pay at the event or ahead of time in cash or via Zelle, Venmo, or here on the RCE website. If you cannot pay this fee, please let us know and accomodations can be made.
If you want to make an additional donation to the makerspace as well, it would be greatly appreciated. They are letting us use the space for free, and we want to help them stay afloat. We are also giving a cut of the money we make from registration fees to the makerspace. If you are interested in making an additional donation, you can do that here: https://www.tinkercamp.org/donate.php
Entry to the building: There are two ways to get inside; through a back door (the code is 03834) and a short path inside the building to our space, or through the front entrance on Baltimore Ave, up the stairs, and look for room 212 on the map. More information on how to get to the event space can be found on our discord. Signs will also be posted in the building directing competitors and spectators towards the space.
