The May Day Melee

Combat Robots of OKlahoma Presents The May Day Melee!!    After dancing your Bots around the May Pole on the 1st, come throw them in the cage on Saturday May 2nd!!  It will be total May-hem.  Your bots will be screaming MAYDAY MAYDAY!  And 3lb BEETLES make a glorious return.

3 Bot classes:

Plants - 1lb 3d printed bots

Ants - 1lb Full combat

Beeleweights - 3lb

 

 

Robots:  Robots must meet the SPARC Robot Construction Specifications.  We will not allow pneumatics, hydraulics, ICE (Internal Combustion Engines), or  FIRE.  No sportsman categories so no need to worry about rules in that section. (i.e. no limits on weapon tip speed). 

Plastic Ants   Again, please review the SPARC Robot Construction Specifications. There is a section for plants at the end of the document.  The body and weapon must be 3D printed.  Several plastics are allowed but No TPU anywhere on the robot. 

Driver Limit 2 bots per person, 1 in each weight class.  This rule might be relaxed in the last week before fight day.  You must email an event organizer if you need to swap bots.

Tournament Format   

We will start with a qualifying bracket and then a single elimination bracket.  2 minute rounds. Bots that survive 2 minutes will go to judges decision.  

Round 1 8 fights. Brackets will be randomized when registration closes.

Round 2  8 fights.  All bots that win round 1 will fight each other,  all bots that lose in round 1 will fight each other.  Bots that win, 2-0 will qualify  Bots that lose 0-2 will be done competing for the day. Bots that are 1-1 will move on to round 3.

Round 3 4 fights.  All bots with 1 win 1 loss record. All bots that win (2-1) will qualify, losing bots will be done for the day (1-2) 

We will begin the single elimination bracket with 8 bots total 2-0 bots and 2-1 bots.  Brackets will be arrange to prevent repeat match ups. Bots that make it to semi-final round will fight to determine 3rd place.

 

Podium 

1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies for each category.

 

Sponsorships

This section will be updated once sponsors are secured.

We plan to have gift cards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each category.

 

Safety Considerations

 A LiPo charging bag must be used when charging your batteries. 

Weapon locks and sharp edge covers must be used while the bot is outside of the arena.

Bot drive can be tested in pit area if wheels are supported off the table with weapon lock in place or weapon removed.

All bot testing with weapon must be in test box or arena.

Safety glasses when using power tools.

 

Location: 

This is an indoor event at the Moore Norman Technology Center Franklin  Road Campus 4701 12th Avenue NW Norman, OK 73069

Entry will be at the southern most of building facing west towards 12th avenue NW,   Gate # 5.  Entry door is locked at all times, we will have volunteers stationed to open door hopefully to end of day,  But phone numbers will be posted if you are not able to enter.

 

Facilities: 

 Event will be held in the Engineering room.  Space is limited. Additional tables will be in hall way just outside room. And pit tables will also be in two adjacent classrooms.  We heard you loud in clear from our surveys, we will have plenty of tables for everyone. 

Plans are to have power strips at each table.  There are plenty of outlets along the walls to setup a Lipo charging area. 

Lunch will be provided and yet to be determined.  All competitors will be charge a nomial fee at least $5 but not more than $10 to cover lunch.

Please email an event organizer from this page if you are interested in helping out.  We are always short on volunteers.  We need judges, pit runners, photographers, arena setup are just a few.  We will find a place for you!  Please Reach out.  Free lunch for volunteers!

 

Schedule: 

7:30 - Doors open and check in and Safety begins

09:00 - Safety Meeting begins

09:30 - Fights begin

12 ish – Lunch will be available.

18:30 - Estimated wrap up time

 

Arena:

Main Arena is 8x8x4 with wood floor. Walls are 2 polycarbonate panels 0.25 inch thick with airgap between.

Beetles, Full Combat ants, and plastic ants are safe to operate.

Secondary arena is 8x4x2 wooden arena with one 0.25 inch layer of polycarbonate which can be used for safety and possible matches with ants.

Fees: Competitors will be charge $20 for Ants and $30 for Beetles.  And $5-$10 for lunch.
