Welcome to CTRL PDX! Tussle at Tinkercamp is our fifth event, and we’re super excited! Spectators and competitors of any skill level are welcome! Bot check-in starts at 8:00 and fights will start at 10:30. To make the event run as efficiently as possible, please arrive with your bot read to pass safety and compete.

Schedule:

Please note that the schedule will start earlier than usual, as to not go too late into the evening.

8:00 - 10:00 Check in and safety
10:00 - 10:15 Driver's meeting
10:30 - 1:45 Fights
1:45 - 2:30 Lunch break
2:30 - 6:30 Fights Resume
6:30 - 7:30 Teardown

The schedule is a loose esimate of how the day will go. Things are subject to change.

Safety: To pass safety, your bot will need to be weighed and demonstrate that it can failsafe. For safety purposes, if a robot’s battery is exposed to its opponent, that robot will lose the fight. In the event of a lipo puncture or fire, we will have a lipo bucket with kitty litter and tongs, as well as someone nearby who can run the bucket out of the building. You must also demonstrate that your robot has can move controllably. You may be asked to drive your robot to different areas of the arena during your safety check to demonstrate that you can control your robot.

Arena: We have a 4-foot by 4-foot box with an untreated steel floor. There is a shelf hazard in the corner of the arena; if you are put onto the shelf, you'll be counted out.

Rules: We will be using the standard Sparc ruleset for full-class metal antweight, plastic antweight, and fairyweight. We are allowing the weight bonuses outlined in the Sparc ruleset for plastic antweight and fairyweight classes only, in the interest of arena safety. Fights are 3 minutes long.

Fighting Format: The tournament will use a modified double elimination bracket. If a weight class has fewer than 6 robots, we will do a round-robin tournament for that weight class. Our weight classes and maximum class sizes are:

Fairyweight 16 bots
Full Combat Ant 20 bots

Plastic Ant

20 bots

If there is a high demand, we may increase the number of robots allowed in a weight class.

Prizes: We are currently working on getting sponsored prizes for this event.

Entrance Fee:

Builders will be charged a $20 entry fee per robot. This is to offset the cost of our box, improve builder experience, and to purchase other materials. A portion of this money will also go to the event space. You can pay at the event or ahead of time in cash or here on the RCE website. If you cannot pay this fee, please let us know and accomodations can be made.

Spectators will also be asked to contribute a suggested donation of 10 dollars.

Entry to the building: There are two ways to get inside; through a back door (the code is 03834) and a short path inside the building to our space, or through the front entrance on Baltimore Ave, up the stairs, and look for room 212 on the map. The back door comes up when you search  6700 N New York Ave in Google Maps, or as 9010 N Decatur St on Apple Maps. More information on how to get to the event space can be found on our discord.
