USU Back-to-School Bash

It's time to go back to school, and we're starting it off with a bonafied ROBOT RIOT! USU is hosting its second Back-to-School Bash, where builders from our club and the local community gather to start the school season off with a BANG!

This event will be held in the front atrium of USU's Engineering building (ENGR), with pits in ENGR 101. Entry is FREE for both competitors and spectators.

WEIGHTCLASSES:

PLAntweights and Antweights. Weight limit for both is one-pound (454 grams). To encourage creativity and artistry, we will NOT include the weight of decorative items on your robot. If you plan on using any decorative elements, please get it cleared with the Event Organizer before August 31st. Generally, we will allow it as long as it doesn't pose an entanglement hazard, improve the effectiveness of your robot, or add to durability. We reserve the right to determine if a piece is decorative or not.

Match Rules:

Our matches will be timed for TWO minutes. If nobody gets knocked-out within that time, both bots will be judged using 6-damage, 6-control, and 5-aggression points. Unsticks are only performed under the discretion of the arena manager.

We are using a modified-swiss tournament; which breaks the tournament into two stages:

1. Placement stage: Competitors will be guaranteed 3 matches. The first match assignments are completely random, while the next two are matched with similarly-performing opponents.

2. Elimination stage: The top 8 bots will be placed into a ranked, single-elimination stage to determine the winner!

REPAIR TIME:

Builders are guaranteed a 20-minute repair window. If you are being called and are not ready after the 20 minutes, you have a few options:

A. If you have two teams ready to go IMMEDIATELY, they can take your place. During the first stage, you are allowed to do this TWICE per fight. During the elimination stage, you may only do this ONCE, but you may also have grudge matches take your place.

B. Arena-Side Repairs: You can bring the robot SAFELY to the arena, and are given 3-minutes to perform final repairs arena-side. By the end of the 3-minutes, it is up to the discretion of the arena-manager whether the fight will continue, or if you forfeit. You may only do this once per stage (robots that make it into the elimination bracket are granted another arena-side repair, ONLY IF they used one during the group stage)

C. Forfeit: Please don't do this, especially if you're in the final bracket.
