Sydney Robot Combat 1

Sydney Robot Combat will hold it's first event at the Sydney West Careers and Employment Expo. This is a beetleweight event with regularly scheduled rounds for a crowd of the general public. 

Competitors will get the usual competition they have come to expect with three to four round robin fights leading into a single elimination bracket. Exhibition matches/demonstrations and early scrutineering can be completed on friday, with rounds occuring hourly over saturday. UNSW Founders has graciously lent the Robot Royale beetleweight arena to compete in. 

This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the sport to a broad general audience, facilitated by an independent organisation (KJEX). A good show will likely justify larger events and/or weight classes in the future.

Class: 1.36kg Beetleweights

Arena: 3.6x2.4x1.2m with Pit and Rift hazards in opposing corners. 10mm Polycarbonate walls.

Venue: Sydney Olympic Park for Sydney West Careers and Employment Expo. Exact hall and location will be updated here once known. Tables, chairs and wall power will be provided. Basic hand drilling and soldering is permitted, but loud and messy tasks such as angle grinding cannot be done on premesis.

Registration: Free, but any contributions towards arena transport costs will be much appreciated. Projected to cost around $300

  • 8:30- Doors open
  • Exhibition fights/demonstrations until close as builder availability permits. Destructible items will be provided.
  • Scrutineering open all day for early checkin.
  • 15:00 - Doors close
• Saturday 29th August 2026
  • 8:00 - Doors open
  • 9:30 - Round 1 Fights
  • 10:30 - Round 2 Fights
  • 11:30 - Round 3 Fights
  • 12:00 - Lunch Break
  • 13:00 - Round 4 Fights
  • 14:00 - Playoffs A (Quarterfinals)
  • 15:00 - Playoffs B (Semifinals, Finals)
  • 16:00 - Exhibition closes, competitors pack up
  • 17:00 - Event close

Rules:

This event will follow the Robot Royale Rules. The '1 Robot' rule will be waived for this first event to help keep numbers up, but please do not bring more than you can handle as fights cannot be delayed.

Key rules for safety include:

• Must have a switch to turn off power without dissasembling the robot.
• A visible power LED.
• Your battery must be covered
• Must pass a radio failsafe test
• Must have a weapon lock that prevents any spinning weapons from moving while outside the arena. 
• 80m/s measured tip speed limit for beetles. Radio limiting not permitted.
