Robot Royale 9

Welcome to the ninth Robot Royale at Michael Crouch Innovation Center, UNSW Sydney. This event is being run as a collaboration between UNSW CREATE and Wollongong Robot Combat. 

This event features both antweight and beetleweight classes. The ant arena is a 1.2x1.2x0.6m aluminium extrusion box with 6mm polycarbonate walls. For the beetle arena, 3.6x2.4x1.2m and lined in 10mm thick polycarbonate, it can contain the worst Australia has to offer under our 80m/s tip speed limit.

Classes: Each robot may only compete in one class. See rules for extra information regarding limits on the number of robots one can enter.

• 150g Plastic Ant League (destructive) - material restrictions apply. 
• 150g Open League (destructive)
• 1.36kg Beetleweight (destructive)

Ant Arena: 1.2x1.2x0.6m with pit. 6mm PC walls

Beetle Arena: 3.6x2.4x1.2m with pit. 10mm PC walls

Venue: We will have plenty of space with pit tables, power outlets, water, and a well equipped makerspace.

Schedule

• Friday September 18th 2026
  • Venue will be open for early safety in the afternoon, after the arena is constructed. Contact event organisers if you want to drop in on this day.
• Saturday September 19th
  • 9am - Doors Open
  • 10-11:30am - Safety checks
  • 12am - Fights begin
  • ~1:30pm - Late lunch
  • 4:30pm - Fights end for day 1. Approximately three complete round robins.
• Sunday September 20th
  • 9am - Doors Open
  • 9:30am - Fights start
  • ~11:30am - Lunch
  • 12:30pm - Finals bracket begins
  • 4pm - Fights end
  • 4:30pm - Loadout begins

• Key rules for safety include:
  • Must have a switch to turn off power without dissasembling the robot.
  • Only one robot can be entered per class, per driver. See rules for examples. 
  • A visible power LED.
  • Your battery must be covered
  • Must pass a radio failsafe test
  • Must have a weapon lock that prevents any spinning weapons from moving while outside the arena. 
  • 80m/s measured tip speed limit for beetles. Radio limiting not permitted.
