BYU College Clash
Coming April 2027, we will host an FC Antweight division with competitiveness in mind. This bracket will be open to all Utah students; for both new and experienced participants alike. We hope this bracket can provide a competitive environment to push the engineering limits and skills of each participant.
Thanks to BYU, our club has received funds to upgrade the arena to ensure the safety of club members and participants when handling fights between FC 1lb robots. This competition will be ranked on robotcombatevents.com (RCE)
Changes to the Plastic Antweight division: this division will be tailored to provide beginner-level competition experience to BYU club members
BYU Club Leadership will be deciding which teams will participate in the tournament in order to cultivate a beginner friendly environment. Club leadership will make these decisions on a case-by-case basis, and will follow these general rules:
Participants demonstrating poor sportsmanship will be asked not to participate. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Making rude or demeaning comments online or in person
- Lack of cordial behavior towards other teams
- Failure to include a clear photo of the robot in its RCE profile within the specified time frame (1-2 weeks before competition)
- Bringing a different robot than specified in its RCE profile
- Making other participants feel uncomfortable in any way
Combat robotics enthusiasts who have frequently participated in other competitions (over several years) may be asked not to participate in the plastic antweight division.
Competitors are expected to participate only with robots that they built and designed themselves. While we encourage participants to ask questions and get help from members of the community, we would like the majority of the CAD design to be done by the team themselves.
- Competitors will be asked not to compete with kit and proven bots, as BYU teams are discouraged from buying kit bots in order to develop their engineering skills.
In the event of a disagreement, Event Organizers (club leadership) have the final decision.
Ranking points on RCE will be disabled for this competition, since it would be unfair to conflate ranking points from this beginner-level competition with other open-registration competitions across the nation. While the event will still be organized on RCE for logistic purposes, ranking points will be disabled.
We will continue to follow SPARC guidelines for all other competition details, including filament selection, motor selections, or other build restrictions. To clarify further; past club restrictions banning materials such as Super PLA+ have been removed.
