Helios is my first featherweight combat robot which will be competing at NHRl September 17. I'm very happy with the design; I intend for the weapon to weigh about 15lbs---19lbs if you include the surrounding components that ensure its proper motion. The frame is completely machined with either aluminum or nylon wheelguards, and it has rubber standoffs to mount armoring plates joined to forks. The weapon is powered by two 5215 (Stator) X-class drone motors on 6s. Apparently the batteries can discharge ~800a but I doubt it. Driving the weapon motors are two Castle Creations 120a Monster Mamba 2 speed controllers, ESCs which I've held onto since I first got started in mechanical engineering somewhere about four years ago. Drive is four P6s gearboxes paired with 2808 (3530 OD) Tempest brushless motors which I like alot. They're the 1860kv variants and after the 16:1 gearbox function the output RPM is 3000, and at the indirectly driven wheels it's 3700rpm. I think it'll drive well, but it might struggle with too much magnetic downforce. Thankfully NHRL has wooden floors, but this might actually end up being problematic due to the very low ground clearance. Because this robot has 8WD the wheel OD shouldn't decrease too much with use because the downforce is distributed across eight wheels. The weapon has an OD of 27.5" I believe and hits with something like 15kj but I imagine there will be some instability at the full 200MPH so I'll likely run at 50-percent throttle. There's a lot of machining which drained some of my budget and all my financial slack, so I'll unfortunately have little to no spares. I can deal, but I doubt Helios will have good chances for winning the entire tournament. I understand I'll run into many issues given the complexity, or better described as intricacy, of this bot. But whatever happens it'll be fun---plus I'll have my 12lber hub motor bot Chronus.
