TinkaTuff
1lb - Antweight
History
Weapons
Spinner

Of the Tinatink evolution pokemon, this is the first one. I figured it'd be more appropriate to reserve "Tinatink" to the fairyweight class. Y'all better watch out for that! Also, look out for a potential "TinkaTon" beetleweight.

Onto TinkaTuff, this is an Antweight vertical spinner that is purely focused on damage. The design is inspired by NHRL 12lbs competitor Adamant Barrage, which is apparent with its large forks. I diverge from adamant barrage with a greater focus on attacking the softer plastics often found in this weightclass. Most of my weapon blades are SR500 (Offered exclusively from Oshcut), picked from designs that look like they could slice rather than punch the opponent.

So basically the opposite of the actual Tinkatink...

FIRST EVENT: THE BOT SPOT (1/17/2026)

This is the first competition for the Tinkatink evolution robots, and I'm starting with the middle one. I came up with the idea over winter break, and had a working prototype within a few days. While driving was surprisingly good, the weapon was slightly too close to the ground, so it would sometimes hit a small bump in the floor. It has a fun habit of flipping upside down after moderate hits, but it also drives better upside down. I'm really starting to doubt my engineering on this one...

Looking at the event, I see both good and bad draws for my robot. On the good, I know the arena is 8x8 with steel floors. That's excellent news for me, as Tinkatuff's wheels are prone to collecting dust in wood-floored arenas. The RTV Gasket tread also does an excellent job of grabbing onto steel. The size also means I have plenty of room to maneuver around. The bad news is that this event has numerous horizontals. This is a bad matchup for this style of robot, because an opponent only needs to widdle down/remove my forks to impact my performance. Additionally, a hard hit to the side of the blade will wreak havoc on my robot. This is aggrevated by these horizontals being the strongest in my region. While I don't expect to have much success, this is a build that gets me excited and passionate for robotics, so I have already won in a way.

PARTS:

Battery: 3S 300mAH

Drive: Repeat Brushed with Repeat budget DESC

Weapon: Repeat Ant Hubmotor (1800 KV), controlled with a PBB 35 amp ESC.

Blades: My favored blade is a slightly larger version of the "Dark Matter" beetleweight from GrabCad. It is a disk similar to Cobalt, and Repeat robotics own 3.75 inch disk. However, this one has a sharper main tooth, and the distance between that main tooth and the smaller teeth is reduced. Hopefully this means that the weapon is more likely to catch and shred than bounce away.

In addition to those blades, I also ordered scaled up SR500 weapons from Repeat Robotics's Antweight designs. One is a symmetrical bar that has some smaller catch points immediately following the main tooth. This may prove more advantageous against horizontals. Finally, I ordered my favorite triangular disk, scaled up from its 2.75 inch original size. Unfortunately I ordered it in 0.25 inch thick, which brought it out to 150 grams. For comparison, the next heaviest weapon for Tinatuff is 61 grams.

Materials: TinkaTuff's main chassis will be printed from TPU. The weapon support and the forks are made from UHMW, courtesy of Robot Smashing League. Top plate is Carbon Fiber, also thanks to RSL. The wheels use fingertech foam, with RTV Gasket maker as a traction-aid.
